FET:
Field-Effect Transistor: A
transistor in which the voltage on one terminal
(the gate) creates a field that allows or disallows
conduction between the other two terminals (the source
and drain).
|
|
FIFO:
First-In First Out: A type of memory that stores data
serially, where the first bit read is the first bit
that was stored.
|
|
File Header:
The first section in computer file contain data for
properties and specification.
|
|
Flip Flop:
An electronic circuit that alternates between two
states. When current is applied, it changes to its
opposite state ("0 to 1 or 1 to 0"). Made of several
transistors, it is used in the design of static
memories and hardware registers. |
|
FM:
Frequency Modulation. A modulation method in which the
carrier frequency changes with the input signal
amplitude.

|
Freewheeling Diode:
A diode used to eliminate flyback, the sudden voltage
spike seen in an inductive load when its supply
voltage has been suddenly reduced. A flyback diode
provides an alternate current path for the energy
stored in the load, which allows that energy to
dissipate slowly, rather than manifesting as a voltage
spike as it attempts to dissipate instantaneously
through the load.
